OlympX is a mobile game set in the ancient world, blending map exploration, card battles, and character progression against a backdrop of Greek mythology. It's built for players who enjoy strategic thinking wrapped in atmospheric visuals — think Zeus, laurel wreaths, and crackling lightning across deep blue skies. The game spans multiple historical regions, from Hellas to Persis, each with its own set of legends to uncover. Whether you're managing an equipment loadout before a fight or tracking your Glory score on the profile screen, there's genuine depth here to dig into.
Game Screens
Inside the Game
OlympX drops you into a mythological version of the ancient world, structured around three interlocking systems: map exploration, card-based combat, and character leveling. The world map — labeled "The Old World: Maps of Antiquity" — is divided into distinct regions. Hellas covers the period from roughly 1500 to 146 BC and contains 39 legends to uncover across connected node paths. Persis, set between 550 and 331 BC, is a separate region centered on Persepolis. Progress is tracked in detail: places of memory, uncovered legends, and percentage completion all show up on the map screen.
Trial of Cards: The Combat Layer
The core battle mode is called Trial of Cards, accessed through The Coliseum. You draw from your deck, manage a five-segment energy bar, and fight to reveal hidden opponent cards. Equipment plays a direct role — your loadout includes up to five slots (boots, armor, sword, shield, helmet), each with a Power value that feeds into your total Power score. The Reforges counter limits how many times you can change your gear mid-run. It's a system that rewards planning: every move costs energy, and the opponent's card stays hidden until you've earned the reveal.
Visuals and Atmosphere
The aesthetic leans hard into Olympian grandeur. Zeus dominates the promotional screens — white toga, golden arm bands, blue glowing eyes, lightning crackling from his palm. Multiplier values like x3.14, x6.51, and x9.96 appear as large golden text framed by winged ornaments and red crystalline circles. The color palette is deep blue and gold throughout, with two selectable UI themes: Midnight (dark, described as "deep void") and Azure (described as "brighter blue"). The flash-heavy lightning effects are visually striking but worth noting for players with photosensitive concerns — no in-app toggle to reduce them is currently available.
Gold, Lightning, and the Feel of a Spin
There's a particular visual language in OlympX that will feel immediately familiar to anyone who's spent time with mythology-themed slot games — the winged multiplier displays, floating golden crowns, coins and scepters orbiting a godlike figure, celebration bursts of light when a high value lands. The x9.96 screen, with its ornate crown above and stacked golden rewards below, captures exactly that moment of tension and payoff. It's the same visual grammar, translated into a card-battle structure.
Profile and Progression
- Character level starts at 1, with a progress bar tracking points toward the next threshold (shown as 4/100 at early game)
- The profile displays wins, losses, relics collected, and realms visited in a color-coded four-square grid
- Glory is the primary score currency, earned through Trial of Cards victories
- A Chronicles section exists on the profile but only activates after completing a chapter in The Saga
- Screen reader compatibility and color contrast have room to improve — the interface relies heavily on color coding for game states without consistent text-based alternatives
The combination of node-based map progression and card combat gives OlympX more structural variety than its visual style initially suggests — though the interface complexity may take a few sessions to feel natural.
