So I've been grinding Ice Fishing Prize for a few weeks now, and the value proposition here is honestly kind of confusing to me. The core loop — pick a spot, nail the timing on the mini-game, sell your catch, upgrade your gear — is actually pretty satisfying when it clicks. Landing a pike or catfish after a bunch of minnow runs genuinely feels like a small win. The timing bar mechanic is simple but not totally brainless, which I appreciate.

That said, the upgrade path feels slower than it should. Used to be that in games like this you'd feel meaningful gear progression every few sessions; here it feels like I'm selling stacks of perch and carp just to afford one rod upgrade that barely widens the green zone. The gap between what common fish sell for and what the better tackle costs is noticeable. Minnows at 4 coins, perch at 6 — you're grinding for a while before catfish (25 coins each) become your bread and butter.

The winter atmosphere is genuinely nice though. The landscapes, the sounds, the overall vibe — it's a chill experience when you're not stressing about the timing window. Good for a quick break or winding down at night. And the variety of fish species gives you something to aim for, which helps.

My main gripe is that the early-game economy feels stingier than it used to in similar fishing games I've played. The green zone on the indicator starts so narrow that new players are probably going to bounce off it pretty fast. Is there a way to adjust difficulty or widen the starting window that I'm just missing? Would love to know if anyone else has found a trick for making early progression less of a slog.
