Pyramine, arazi arkeologları için tasarlanmış, iPhone'da tamamen çevrimdışı çalışan profesyonel bir saha defteri uygulamasıdır. Saqqara'dan Beni Hasan'a uzanan kazı sezonlarını, buluntu kayıtlarını, stratigrafik sütunları ve ekip yönetimini tek bir çatı altında toplar. Uygulama; Mısır arkeolojisi terminolojisine hâkim araştırmacılara, öğrencilere ve saha ekiplerine hitap eden derin bir referans kütüphanesiyle de birlikte gelir. Herhangi bir hesap açılmasına, reklama ya da uygulama içi satın alıma gerek yoktur.
Pyramine, bir arkeolojik kazının karmaşık iş akışını tek bir yapılandırılmış uygulamaya sığdırır. Koyu mor-viyole arka plan üzerine işlenmiş altın renkli Mısır temalı görseller ve hiyerogliflerle bezeli arayüzü, veriyi estetikten ödün vermeden sunar.
Uygulamanın en çarpıcı yönlerinden biri gizlilik anlayışıdır: tüm veriler yalnızca cihazda saklanır, hiçbir bilgi iPhone'dan çıkmaz. Ancak erişilebilirlik açısından bazı eksikler dikkat çekiyor. Dağıtım haritasındaki küçük renkli noktalar ve bazı simge tabanlı düğmeler, dokunma hedefi boyutu yetersiz kalabilecek öğeler arasında sayılmaktadır. Öte yandan altın rengi üzerine altın metin kullanımı kontrast sorunlarına yol açabilir.
Pyramine, arazi not defterinin dijital karşılığını arayan araştırmacılar için ciddi ve düşünceli bir çaba; ancak erişilebilirlik iyileştirmeleri hâlâ gündemin üst sıralarında yer almayı hak ediyor.

Marek_Technik: für ernsthafte Publikationsvorbereitung wäre ein strukturierteres Format (etwa CSV oder JSON) deutlich hilfreicher
Die Einschätzung zum Export-Format teile ich — das ist tatsächlich der Punkt, der mich am meisten beschäftigt. Früher, also bei analogen Notizbüchern, war das Problem umgekehrt: man hatte die Daten, aber keine einfache Möglichkeit zur Auswertung. Jetzt hat man die digitale Struktur, aber der Ausweg aus der App ist zu schmal. Plaintext für eine Publikation aufzubereiten kostet im Zweifel mehr Zeit als das händische Abtippen aus einem gut geführten Feldbuch — ist das wirklich der Stand, den wir uns 2024 wünschen?

Also ich muss sagen ich hab das mit dem Export auch ausprobiert und irgendwie dachte ich zuerst das geht bestimmt auch als Tabelle oder so, weil das wäre ja praktischer, also ich hab dann auch nur den Plaintext gefunden und war ein bisschen verwirrt, aber vielleicht übersehe ich auch einfach etwas, weiß ich nicht? Hat jemand noch eine andere Exportoption entdeckt die ich nicht gesehen habe, oder ist das wirklich alles was es gibt? Und überhaupt, ich benutze die App eigentlich gar nicht für echte Grabungen, ich studiere im zweiten Semester Ägyptologie und finde die Field Academy mit den Hieroglyphen und dem Keramik-Atlas total toll für das Lernen, auch wenn manche Begriffe auf Englisch sind und ich manchmal nachschlagen muss, also irgendwie ist das trotzdem super hilfreich :)

The no-account, no-IAP setup is genuinely the first thing I noticed too, and it shifts the value calculation pretty significantly. You're essentially paying once — or in this case nothing, since it appears to be a free download — and everything is yours, locally, permanently. For what you get: the finds catalogue, the distribution map, the Harris matrix builder, the full reference library, that's a lot of functional depth. The question I keep turning over is whether someone who isn't already working in field archaeology would get enough use out of it to justify the learning investment. The Field Academy helps, but the app is clearly built around professional workflows, not casual interest.
I have been using Pyramine for a number of weeks now, having downloaded it on the recommendation of a colleague who works in Near Eastern survey, and I find my impressions are rather more measured than the enthusiasm expressed above — though I do not mean that as a criticism of the application itself. The Expedition Command section is, by any reasonable standard, impressively conceived; the ability to manage a dig grid, assign squares to team members, track supply reorder points and log daily weather and work observations in a single structured interface is something I would have found genuinely useful during fieldwork I conducted in the early part of my career. What I find myself noting, however, is that the application has clearly been designed for Egyptian field contexts specifically — the ceramic atlas, the Gardiner hieroglyph list, the chronological table of Egyptian periods — which means that colleagues working in, say, the Levant or the Aegean will find the reference material only partially applicable to their needs. The core recording tools are universal enough, but the Academy content is Egypt-centric in a way the description does not fully foreground. That said, the privacy-first architecture is commendable; my expedition data remains on my device, and I have no reservations about that aspect whatsoever.
The Egypt-specific point is a fair one — I kept wondering the same thing when I was poking around the Academy. The Gardiner list and the pottery chronology are genuinely useful if you're working sites in Egypt, but I used to assume apps like this would at least gesture toward other regional traditions. For what it is, the core toolkit is solid and the no-purchase model means there's nothing to lose trying it. But is anyone else using this outside of an Egyptian context, and if so, how much of the reference library actually transfers?
To be fair, the Egypt focus makes sense given the name and the aesthetic — you're not exactly downloading something called Pyramine and expecting Bronze Age Anatolia workflows. That said, the point about the reference material is legitimate; the Harris matrix, the context sheets, the photo log, the chain of custody for samples — those are all methodology-agnostic and would work on any site. The Academy being Egypt-specific is a real limitation if you're outside that tradition, but the field tools themselves seem designed around standard stratigraphic practice rather than any one regional school. Whether that tradeoff is acceptable really depends on how much you lean on the reference side versus the recording side.
One thing I keep coming back to is the distribution map — it used to be that you'd need a separate GIS tool or at least a spreadsheet to get even a rough picture of where finds were clustering across a grid, and here it's just built in, procedurally generated from the catalogue data you're already entering. That's the kind of integration that makes the whole system feel like more than the sum of its parts. Is anyone tracking whether the export options are likely to expand, or is plain text the long-term plan for the finds catalogue output?
