Open Rich Play for the first time and the store imagery sets a very particular mood: glossy cherries, spinning bells, a giant red 777 on a deep-purple background, golden coins cascading in every direction. It looks, unmistakably, like a fruit machine in full swing. Step past the loading screen, though, and the game underneath is something else entirely — a top-down maze where a brave hen must outrun enemies and answer trivia questions to unlock barred gates.

How the maze actually works

• Each level is a grid-based maze with green pipe-style walls on a tan floor, viewed from above.
• Enemy characters — described as cunning foxes, appearing as cartoon fish in gameplay — chase the player through the corridors.
• Locked gates block progress until you answer a multiple-choice trivia question correctly; a right answer opens the gate and sends enemies fleeing.
• Wrong answers cost no lives — you simply try again, which keeps the pacing relaxed even when the questions are hard.
• Golden collectibles are scattered along maze paths; corn currency accumulated this way unlocks additional trivia subject categories.
• Lives are tracked by a heart system (three total), and mazes grow visibly larger and more complex as you progress.

Subject categories and progression

The home screen presents six trivia subjects arranged in a grid: Science and History are available from the start. Geography and Words require 30 corn each to unlock, while Nature and Space cost 50 corn apiece. The corn currency is earned inside the mazes, so heavier subject variety is gated behind actual play time rather than a paywall — at least based on what the interface displays.

The slot-machine aesthetic — and what it shares with classic reels

Rich Play's promotional art borrows the full vocabulary of a classic fruit machine: spinning reel strips with motion blur, photorealistic cherries and grapes, a golden bell, four-leaf clovers, and showers of coins against deep-red and purple gradients. It's the same festive, high-contrast visual language you'd find on a traditional slots cabinet — symbols aligned in rows, each one glossy and oversized. Inside the maze, that richness gives way to a clean white card-based UI, but the loading screen still greets you with a row of fruit icons and the line "Match the symbols. Hit the jackpot." The atmosphere is unmistakably borrowed from the reels, even if the gameplay is not.

A standout feature — and a real limitation

The "Star in the maze" feature lets players upload a photo of their own face, which then becomes the villain character chasing the hen. It's a clever, self-aware gag that adds genuine replay value. On the downside, several accessibility gaps are worth noting: the bottom navigation bar shows three tabs (grid, trophy, settings) with icons only and no text labels, color is used as the sole indicator for active tabs and remaining lives, and enemy proximity appears to rely on audio cues with no confirmed visual equivalent — a meaningful barrier for players with hearing impairments.
