Deep Water Guide is a mobile fishing companion built for anglers who want more than just a hunch about where the fish are biting. It brings together a fish encyclopaedia, an interactive map, practical gear tools, and a personal fishing log under one clean, dark-themed interface. Whether you're a weekend angler or a dedicated freshwater enthusiast, the app is designed to help you fish smarter and remember every detail of every trip. It was last updated on April 17, 2026.
Inside the App
What the App Does
Deep Water Guide organises everything an angler needs to plan, execute, and learn from a fishing trip. The four main sections — Encyclopedia, Map, Tracker, and Tools — are accessible from a persistent bottom navigation bar, making it straightforward to switch between looking up a species and dropping a pin on the map.
Fish Encyclopedia & Spot Map
The fish encyclopaedia covers species characteristics and behaviour, with entries that include maximum weight, length, habitat type, and difficulty level. The walleye entry, for example, details the fish's reflective tapetum lucidum, its daily depth movements, and its status as the most popular freshwater sport fish in Canada and the northern United States — the kind of field intelligence that actually changes how you approach a session. The Spot Map lets you place named pins on your favourite locations, attach notes, and build a personal library of productive water over time.
Tools: Knots, Bait, Hooks & Checklists
- Knot Guide — step-by-step animated knot tutorials
- Bait Selector — rule-based recommendations to match conditions
- Hook Size Guide — a horizontally scrolling visual reference covering sizes from 32 all the way to 6/0, each card showing physical measurement, line weight range, and target species
- Fishing Checklist — a customisable gear list to run through before you leave the house
Fishing Log & Statistics
Each session entry records the date, location, weather conditions, and catch details, building a dataset you can actually analyse over time. The statistics view tracks number of sessions, productive spots, species variety, and overall progress. A tutorial mascot — a cartoon angler in a green outfit — walks new users through the core features with contextual tips.
The Tools section is the strongest part of the app; the Hook Size Guide in particular is unusually thorough, pairing each size with real measurements and species recommendations rather than vague generalisations. The horizontal scroll layout, however, may frustrate users with motor impairments, and the map interface relies entirely on visual spatial understanding with no text-based alternative for pin locations.
The Underwater World on Screen
The app's deep blue visual palette — teal accents on a dark background, fish illustrations rendered with clearly defined scales and fins — shares its atmosphere with the fishing games that inspired a whole genre of aquatic-themed mobile entertainment. That same immersive underwater aesthetic, complete with species like bass, trout, salmon, walleye, carp, and pike rendered in careful detail, gives Deep Water Guide a visual character that feels more engaging than a typical utility app, even when you're simply browsing a hook size chart.
