That last option lets you force the engine to open with the London System, Caro-Kann, Sicilian Defense, or King's Indian — useful if you want to drill your response to a specific line repeatedly. The app also identifies and displays classic openings in real time as the game progresses, naming formations like the Ruy Lopez as they appear on the board.

• Help Move toggle: When enabled, tapping a piece overlays the board with color-coded dots — gray for legal destinations, green for safer squares, red for squares under threat — giving immediate tactical context without leaving the board view.

A Real Limitation Worth Knowing

The help system's color coding — green for safe, red for dangerous, yellow for the selected piece — carries the full weight of communicating board danger without any secondary visual cue. There is no pattern, symbol, or text alternative alongside the colors. Players who have difficulty distinguishing red from green will find the Dynamic Help Mode significantly less useful, and gray indicator dots against brown squares present a contrast challenge for users with low vision. The app also does not surface move notation or a game history log, which limits its value as a study tool after a game ends.

The setup screen's depth is a genuine strength — being able to lock the AI into a specific opening strategy before the game starts turns casual play sessions into structured practice in a way most mobile chess apps do not offer.
