Tic Ric is an offline mobile trainer designed to build real typography and visual design skills through hands-on practice. It sits somewhere between a structured course and an interactive playground — structured enough to guide beginners, open enough to reward experimentation. The app works entirely without an internet connection, making it easy to pick up during a commute or a quiet break. Whether you're a student, a self-taught designer, or just curious about why some layouts look polished and others don't, this is a focused tool built for genuine skill-building.

What's Inside
Tic Ric organizes its content around a set of clearly defined learning modules, each targeting a distinct design principle. Lessons cover font pairing, text alignment, visual hierarchy, contrast and color, and spacing harmony. Inside each lesson, the app presents side-by-side Good and Bad examples — a serif heading paired with a clean sans-serif body earns a green checkmark, while poor combinations are labeled and explained. The Typography Guide section goes deeper, with written guidelines on font weight ranges, body text size recommendations (14–18pt), and the three-level heading structure of heading, subheading, and body copy.
How Difficulty and Scoring Work
Lessons are tagged Easy, Medium, or Hard, and each completed module earns a star rating out of five. The dashboard tracks completed levels, total stars earned, and total attempts — giving a quick read on how consistently someone is engaging with the material. Levels are repeatable, so chasing a higher star count on a previous module is a built-in incentive to revisit and refine. The Challenge Mode adds a different kind of pressure: users style random text prompts within a two-minute window, and scores are calculated on both style quality and speed. Recent challenge results are logged with timestamps and times, so progress — or regression — is visible at a glance.
Visual Design and Navigation
The app runs on a light blue background with orange as the primary action color. The bottom navigation bar covers Home, Levels, Challenge, Gallery, and Settings. The 3D-rendered construction scenes — brick buildings suspended from crane hooks, Mediterranean-style facades with green-shuttered windows, golden coins with house icons — give the interface an unexpectedly playful energy that contrasts with the precision of the lessons themselves. The app icon's cyan T and yellow-orange R, rendered in glossy 3D with paper airplane accents, carries the same character.
One Honest Limitation
Accessibility has some gaps worth noting. The color-coded feedback system — green for good examples, red for completion badges, yellow stars on a light background — relies heavily on color alone, without consistent symbol or text alternatives. Users who rely on screen readers may find that 3D construction visuals and color-based progress indicators are not fully described. Small star rating elements may also be difficult to interact with precisely on smaller screens.
Tic Ric is most useful as a low-friction, repeat-practice tool — the kind of app that rewards daily five-minute sessions more than occasional deep dives.
