Lotus Pearls is a mobile recipe app centered entirely on Asian cooking, pulling together cuisines from seven countries into a single, visually rich experience. It's aimed at home cooks who want to explore beyond their usual rotation and try something genuinely new — whether that's a Vietnamese noodle soup or a Malaysian chicken dish. Every screen carries the same bold red-and-gold dragon artwork, giving the whole app a distinct visual identity that sets it apart from the typical white-and-green recipe format.

What's Inside
Lotus Pearls covers seven Asian cuisines — Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, and Malaysian — organized into categories including Ramen & Noodles, Dim Sum, Sushi, Wok & Stir-Fry, Curry, Rice Dishes, Soups, and Desserts. Each recipe comes with a full ingredient list, step-by-step instructions, and a built-in cooking timer. Browsing happens through a two-column card grid on the Explore screen, with horizontal category filter tabs running above it and a search bar at the top.
Dragon Artwork and Visual Design
The most immediately striking thing about Lotus Pearls is the artwork. A detailed Chinese dragon rendered in fiery red, golden orange, and deep crimson runs across every screen — scales, flowing mane, swirling flames, and glowing pearl-like orbs all present throughout. Recipe content sits on semi-transparent dark overlays laid over this background. The result is undeniably atmospheric, though it comes with a real trade-off: text contrast on those overlays can be inconsistent, and the sheer visual complexity of the dragon background may feel overwhelming for users who prefer a cleaner reading environment. There is no simplified or high-contrast mode available.
The Daily Cookie Feature
Separate from recipe browsing entirely, the Daily Cookie tab delivers one fortune-cookie-style message per day — either a culinary tip, an Asian proverb, or a piece of cooking wisdom. The screen shows a cracked-open golden-brown fortune cookie at center, with the day's message displayed beneath it in italic white text. A streak counter tracks consecutive daily visits, and collected wisdoms are saved in a dedicated Wisdom Collection. Messages can also be shared directly from the screen.
Profile and Progress Tracking
The Profile screen uses a 2×2 grid of stat cards to surface numbers around cooking activity: recipes explored, wisdoms collected, and best streak. Favorited recipes are saved and accessible from the same screen. Navigation throughout the app is handled by a four-tab bar — Home, Explore, Cookie, and Profile — that stays fixed at the bottom of every screen.
The dragon-and-pearl visual language is genuinely cohesive across all screens, but it leans hard on decoration at the expense of readability — something users sensitive to visual noise will notice quickly.
A Familiar Feeling in a Different Form
There's something in the rhythm of the Daily Cookie that echoes classic dragon-themed slot games — the same fiery red and gold palette, the same anticipation of cracking something open once a day, the same streak-building loop that rewards returning players. Anyone who's sat through spinning reels surrounded by pearl-clutching dragons will recognize the atmosphere immediately, even if what gets revealed here is a Japanese proverb rather than a jackpot line.
