FreqLens is a room acoustics calculator built for acoustic engineers, studio designers, architects, and home theater enthusiasts. It brings professional-grade analysis — from reverberation time to room mode mapping — into a clean, card-based mobile interface. Projects move through a structured five-step workflow, and every calculation comes with visual feedback and a cost breakdown. The app supports both metric and imperial measurements, USD and EUR currencies, and exports projects to JSON for backup.
App in Action
Inside FreqLens
FreqLens organizes acoustic work around projects. Each project captures a room type — Recording Studio, Home Theater, Listening Room, Office, Conference Hall, or Music Hall — along with dimensions, materials, and a target RT60 range. Volume and surface area calculate automatically as you type, and a golden ratio check compares your room proportions against known references like the Sepmeyer ratio.
What the Calculators Cover
- The RT60 calculator uses the Sabine method to compute reverberation time across six octave bands (125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz), plots frequency distribution, and flags each band with color-coded status indicators.
- The room modes analyzer maps eigenfrequencies up to 300 Hz, classifies them as axial, tangential, or oblique, highlights problematic clustering, and recommends bass trap positions.
- The sound isolation calculator lets you stack multi-layer wall and ceiling constructions from a material list that includes brick, drywall, concrete, mineral wool, air gap, OSB, and cork — layers can be reordered by dragging — and outputs an Rw index, total thickness, total weight, and an isolation quality rating. Over 15 preset templates are included, from Single Brick to Studio Wall Advanced.
- The treatment plan generator calculates the required quantities of bass traps, acoustic panels, and diffusers, renders an interactive 2D placement scheme, and produces a line-item cost estimate.
- Standalone quick tools cover RT60, room modes, speaker placement with power and coverage zones, and a listening position optimizer for stereo, 5.1, and 7.1 configurations.
Materials Library
The library holds 40+ acoustic materials, each with absorption coefficients for all six octave bands, thickness, weight, category, and cost per m². Cards include absorption graphs, and the library supports search, filtering by category (Walls, Floors, Ceilings, Absorbers, Diffusers), and the addition of custom materials. One practical limitation: the frequency-band charts rely heavily on color coding — red, green, and yellow — with numerical values alongside, but no pattern or texture alternative for users with color vision differences.
Frequency, Rhythm, and Visual Structure
There's something almost musical in how FreqLens reads a room — bars rising and falling across octave bands, color shifts marking where a space is in tune or out. It recalls the visual rhythm of a game built around golden light, flowing musical staves, and notes that move in waves across the screen: different domain, same underlying pleasure of watching a system respond to its own internal logic. FreqLens channels that same satisfaction into something functional — orange frequency bars climbing from 125 Hz to 4 kHz, smooth animations, and a minimalist interface that makes dense acoustic data feel, if not simple, then at least navigable.
