so i've been tapping away at rune shift for the past few days and there's something about it that just... keeps pulling me back in a quiet kind of way. like it's not flashy or loud, it doesn't throw confetti at you every five seconds, it just sits there being this calm little puzzle thing and honestly that's kind of refreshing?

the core mechanic is really satisfying once it clicks — you're sliding these carved plates around and trying to get the golden key to the exit, but the twist where two plates with the same glyph fuse together when they meet... tbh i did not expect to care about that as much as i do. sometimes it works in your favour and opens up space, sometimes you accidentally build a wall and just stare at the board like... okay. okay that was my fault.

the ux feels pretty gentle overall. the moves counter is there if you want to track yourself but it's not stressing you out about it, and having undo and hints available means you're never fully stuck in a corner. the hint button being highlighted in gold is a nice little nudge without being annoying about it. restart is always right there too which i appreciate.

the worlds screen is clean, the level grid is easy to read, the shop is simple — skins are just cosmetic which feels fair, and the gem currency is earned through play so it doesn't feel like it's constantly pushing you to spend anything.

where i'm a little less sure is the early pacing... level 1 in the doric world is genuinely very easy, which i get is the point, but there are a lot of locked levels sitting behind it and i wish the difficulty ramped up a bit faster. also the board can feel a little small at times, like i want more room to think...

overall though? honestly a solid little puzzle game. the nordic-meets-ancient-stone aesthetic is cosy without being generic and the merging mechanic is the kind of thing you don't see much of in sliding puzzles.
