Ancient Talks is an education and history app that lets you read about iconic figures from across the centuries — and then actually converse with them through interactive scenarios. It spans pharaohs, writers, scientists, and artists, organized into browsable categories with a search function built in. The app is designed for anyone curious about history who wants something more engaging than a textbook, sitting at the crossroads of learning and play.
App in Action
What's Inside
Ancient Talks puts historical figures on a level where you can interact with them directly. The main screen lists personalities such as Nikolai Gogol, Franz Kafka, Tutankhamun, and Leonardo da Vinci, each filed under categories — Pharaohs, Writers, Artists, Scientists — with a search bar if you know who you're looking for. Tap a name and you get a profile: a short biographical description, a facts count, an achievements tally, and two tabs switching between accomplishments and interesting facts tied to that specific person.
Scenarios: History You Can Change
The chat scenarios are where the app steps away from passive reading. Each one frames a specific moment:
- Save the Second Volume — try to convince Gogol not to burn the manuscript of Dead Souls
- Cheer Up Kafka — attempt to lift the spirits of the Czech-German writer described as the saddest in history
- Advice for the Pharaoh — offer counsel to Tutankhamun on ruling Ancient Egypt
- Convince Einstein — persuade Einstein to publish his theory of relativity earlier than he did
Each scenario card shows a Details button alongside a Start Chat button, so you can read the setup before committing to the conversation.
Achievements and Progress
A dedicated Achievements screen tracks 12 total unlockables, grouped by type: Conversation achievements (like "First Steps" for completing your first chat, or "Chat Master" for finishing five), Exploration achievements for reading articles, and Knowledge achievements for going deeper. Points are assigned to each — 10 for First Steps, 25 for Chat Master, 15 for Explorer, 20 for Knowledge Seeker. A progress counter keeps a running tally of how many you've completed.
Design and a Few Caveats
Visually, the app leans heavily into an Ancient Egyptian aesthetic — golden hieroglyphic borders on black onboarding screens, a glowing pyramid in the icon, cream-and-gold tones throughout the main interface. It's a cohesive look. The golden palette carries through buttons, tags, and active states, which creates atmosphere but does mean the app relies almost entirely on one color for all interactive signaling.
The avatar images throughout the app use generic person silhouettes rather than any period-specific illustration, which feels like a missed opportunity given how much care went into the surrounding visual design.
Some gray text on light backgrounds also sits at the lower end of readable contrast, particularly in the smaller category tags and labels. Navigation itself is straightforward — five bottom tabs covering Articles, Scenarios, Chat, Achievements, and Profile, with clear icons and text labels on each.
