Daily Calculator has been on my phone for a couple of weeks now, and I find myself returning to a question that sounds deceptively simple: does the world need another basic calculator app? Let's be clear — the market is saturated. Every Android device ships with a stock calculator. So the evidence suggests that an app like this lives or dies entirely on whether it does the simple thing better than the default.

On that front, Daily Calculator is — fine. The interface is genuinely clean. The blue-and-white color scheme is easy on the eyes, the buttons are large enough that I haven't accidentally hit the wrong one, and the one-tap clear function works exactly as advertised. There's no lag I can detect, no crashes in my two weeks of use. For someone who just wants to split a bill or double a recipe, this delivers.

But here's where my skepticism surfaces: what is the value proposition beyond that? There's no history log — so if I accidentally clear a result, it's gone. No percentage button, which I reach for constantly when calculating discounts. No copy-to-clipboard function that I can find. These aren't exotic features; they're things that genuinely come up in daily use, which is, ironically, the exact claim in the app's own name.

The design choices are competent — the visual hierarchy makes sense, the equals button stands out appropriately, and the decimal point is where you'd expect it. I'll give credit where it's due. But competence and completeness are different things, and this app is clearly the former without being the latter.

Is it worth the storage space? Probably yes, if you want something lighter than your stock app. Is it worth recommending over alternatives with more features? The evidence suggests — not obviously.

Honestly fair points. Use it for quick sums at work. Never needed a history log personally. Works fine for me.

priya_checks: if I accidentally clear a result, it's gone

the no history thing is such a real gripe though... i've cleared results by accident more times than i'd like to admit and there's just nothing you can do about it. anyway it's a small frustration but it adds up when you're using it every day tbh

Pixel 7, Android 14. Zero crashes. Responsive. Button tap registration is accurate. Missing: history, percentage key, clipboard copy. These aren't edge cases.

yeah the percentage button thing gets me too... like i use that all the time when i'm shopping and trying to figure out a discount. honestly without it i just end up opening a different app which kind of defeats the purpose

i do like the look of it though? the buttons are satisfying to tap, which sounds silly but... like some calculator apps just feel clunky and this one doesn't. tbh that counts for something in my book

The tactile feel of tapping buttons is — genuinely a fair point, and I don't want to dismiss it. The design is pleasant. My argument is simply that pleasant-to-use and fit-for-daily-purpose aren't the same thing. A percentage key and a result history would close that gap considerably. As it stands, the app is doing the aesthetic work without finishing the functional job.

Percentage button would be a nice add. Hope the dev sees these comments. Other than that, no complaints from me. 👍

Zainstalowałem to z czystej ciekawości — potrzebowałem czegoś lekkiego, żeby nie odpalać pełnej apki do prostych obliczeń w pracy. I tu mam mieszane odczucia.

Jeśli to twój use case, spoko.
